A typical Day at Broughton Under Fives

Our day

Morning Session: 8:30am-11:30am

Afternoon Session: 12:00pm-3:00pm

Each session can have up to 32 children in attendance. This is a mix of 2, 3 and 4 year olds. The children are welcomed in at the start of the session. Coats and bags are hung up before coming into the session. The children are signed in on our Online management system and wash their hands before starting to play.

We have free flow play throughout the setting and outside for about 45 minutes and that is when we all sit down for carpet time. During this time we focus our learning through spoken word and song around days of the week, counting, talking about the current theme, weather or a general circle time question. We also do a very simplistic version of the Phonics programme they will take part in when they transition to Primary School. The key element of our carpet time is communication and language and their personal, social and emotional development. We do split into under 3’s and over 3’s for the main activity so as to cater for a more specific learning age.

Once carpet time is over, we have the children wash their hands and enjoy snack time together. Snacks offered are inline with the government guidelines of healthy eating. We offer some kind of carbohydrate and a fruit or vegetable option with a cup of milk or water and adapt if children have allergies or intolerances.

Throughout the day, our staff will use a range of child led and adult led activities. We aim to offer a group activity that consists of singing or stories that the children can join in with. Our activities reflect the topic theme that changes often to coinincide with seasons, children’s interest and holidays.

Tidy up time is a great time for the children to take pride in their space and helping to tidy away at the end of the session. We then end the session, giving any art work out, some singing or a story before opening the doors and making sure each child is matched with their adult collecting them.
